PM Package: preconfigured, plug-in fuel cell hybrid systems
PM Packages are standardised fuel cell hybrid systems for use in forklift trucks and city buses. The Package systems are ready for immediate use, their dimensions are adapted to the target vehicle and they deliver power in the voltage range that the application requires.
PM Package includes a PM Basic fuel cell system and energy storage devices comprising batteries and ultracaps. These absorb the vehicle's braking energy and provide peak power when needed - for example when accelerating, thereby ensuring the propulsion system's superlative efficiency.
The PM Package is completed with other fully-adapted components such as power management, electrical converters, hydrogen tanks and cooling. As a result, the system contains all the components required to replace conventional batteries or diesel generators with an emissions-free and efficient fuel cell solution.
- PM Package MH 30
Proton Motor currently offers two different PM Packages. PM Package MH 30 is designed for forklift trucks that conventionally use an 80 V / 700 Ah battery. It delivers a maximum power of 30 kW with a nominal fuel cell output of 10 kW.
PM Package CB 200 delivers a maximum power of 200 kW for use in city buses. It is based on the PM Basic A 50 fuel cell system with 50 kW of rated power.
When used in city buses, the system’s lack of emissions is a tremendous advantage: it produces no exhaust gases containing CO2 and minimum noise and vibration when in service. It uses 50 per cent less fuel than a bus with a conventional diesel engine.

The rapid refuelling of the tanks compared to several hours of docking at a battery charging station represents a considerable advantage in the context of forklift trucks. One full tank lasts for an entire eight-hour shift, while the tank filling operation takes less than two minutes. This facilitates uninterrupted, multi-shift operation. The capital cost and logistical space for exchanging or storing batteries is also eliminated.
